Specialist To Be In Arkadelphia

Janet Carson, Extension Horticulture Specialist with the Cooperative Extension Service and host of Today's Garden with Janet Carson on AETN, will be in Clark County on January 16, at 12:30 p.m. She will be presenting a program on horticulture at the Youth Building on the Clark County Fairgrounds.

Among the topics to be discussed, she will be speaking on replacing and repairing plants and trees after a winter disaster. She will also take questions after the presentation.

There is no pre-registration required for this meeting, but if you'd like more information, you may contact the Clark county Extension office at 246-2281 or come by 501 Clay Street in Arkadelphia.

MASTER GARDENER

Would you like to be a Master Gardener? Applications are being taken in Clark County for persons who want to sharpen their horticultural skills and then share their knowledge with others through the Master Gardener program.

The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is conducting the Master Gardener training program sessions on Tuesdays in January and February. The first date is January 30 and runs through February 27. The training will be held at the Clark County Fairgrounds Youth Building in Arkadelphia.

Enrollment is limited to 40 participants. After completing the training and receiving their Master Gardener Certification, participants will be asked to donate 40 hours to help the county agent train others toward community service projects.

Instruction will be given on basic botany, principles of horticulture, soils and fertilizers, irrigation, pest control and pesticide use. Other training sessions include vegetable production, home fruit production, landscaping and lawns.

Final selection of participants will be made from applications and interviews. All training will be conducted by Cooperative Extension Service professionals.

Registration fee is $60, which includes meals and a detailed Master Gardener reference notebook.
