Blevins Captures Junior TitleBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 5, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune With a total of 203 points, the Blevins junior girls repeated as district track champions. The meet was held at Genoa Central Thursday, April 29. The Lady Hornets captured first place in all but five events, setting records in the 3200 meter relay and 1600 meter relay along the way. This was an impressive display of speed as the Lady Hornets have no track facilities to practice on. The results from the meet show the team of K. Torres, K. Box, S. Paskel and H. Woodberry winning the 3200 meter relay. The team of Torres, A. Scoggins, A. White and A. Hay took the 1600 meter relay. With a first place in the 800 meter relay was the team of K. Rogers, White, Hay and Scoggins. Changing S. Reck for Rogers, the team of White, Hay and Scoggins took the 400 meter relay. Angie Scroggins captured the top spot in the 100 meter dash, with Ashton White second. In the 100 meter hurdles, Ashley Hay came in first, Keta Rogers was second and White was fourth. The 200 meter run was won by Hay, with Scroggins second and White third. Scoggins captured the 400 meter run, with White second and Reck was fourth. One of the few events not won by Blevins was the 800 meter run. However, Shauni Paskel was second, Keshia Box was fourth and Haley Woodberry was fifth. The 1600 meter run saw Torres finish third, Box fourth and Ty Williamson fifth. In the shot, Rogers took first, with Alison Jordan third. Jordan was also fifth in the pole vault. Hay won the high jump, and was third in the long jump. Scoggins finished fifth in the long jump. In the discus, Meme Muldrew was second with Shannon Daugherty fourth. Hay captured high points honor for the event, with Coach Crow named 7AA Coach of the Year. For senior girls, Brandi Daugherty was the only one to participate in the meet. She came in first in the discus and will compete in the state meet in Jessieville May 7. The top three finishers in the junior event were: Blevins (203), Genoa and Stamps.
