Military News - Jeremy R. Barnett

Army Pfc. Jeremy R. Barnett participated in a joint training and readiness exercise termed Phantom Lifeline 2000,' which involved the entire 13th Corps Support Command's 11 battalions and other elements based at Fort Hood near Killeen, Texas.

Phantom Lifeline was a full-scale, multi-echelon deployment that combined U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Air Force units and individuals to complete the mission. The exercise was launched from Fort Hood with destination points to Camp Bullis, Texas, and then on to the ports of Beaumont and Corpus Christi, Texas. The 4,500 soldiers, equipment and supplies convoyed over 600 miles of roadways with additional air and rail miles.

Key training missions, which were accomplished and evaluated, were movement control operations, establishments of a hospital, medical, dental and veterinary care units; base defense, road maintenance and bridge construction; port chemical decontamination; heavy equipment transportation and maintenance; communications operations support; and logistics automation and material management operations.

Barnett, a heavy wheel vehicle mechanic, is the son of Carolyn A. Eschert of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Chris Barnett of Blevins.

He is a 1998 graduate of Lehigh Acres Senior High School.
