Oak Grove NewsLULA Q. KENDRICKPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune We had a terrible ice storm last week. We were without electricity for almost three days. Trees were all across the road. Thank God we had gas. I felt sorry for the Entergy employees who worked almost all night. We had no telephone either; we couldn't call anyone for help. I have not seen it like this before. I am glad we finally have a president. God knows best. We need to join hands with the president whether we voted for him or not, he is still our president. There were big tree limbs across our phone lines. I really do miss George. He would help anybody whether it was a disaster or not. He had the only transportation around Rosston and Oak Grove, taking people to Prescott on Saturdays and to the doctor. He really would help people. His good deeds outweighed his bad ones. We need people like him today. Jessie Jean Gulley had bypass surgery last week. He is doing fine. I have some good neighbors; Zamie Gulley works everyday, but she doesn't fail to call me when she gets home around 2:00 in the afternoon. I think God for her and Mrs. Margie Johnson and her daughter. I am talking about people with cars. One of our leading preachers, Rev. Frank Williams, passed away. He was a very good young man. They formerly lived at Chidester. His father pastors at Bethel AME in Rosston. Grady Burnell is still in the Rehab Center in Prescott. His wife is still at home at the present. Mrs. Vera Purifoy is on our sick list. She is having trouble with her foot. She has to wear house shoes. Her uncle sees after her. She is in the same shape that I am in. She is one of our Eastern Star sisters. My husband's cousin from Kansas City visited me Thursday and put security locks on my house. I don't know why people are stealing from me. I try to be nice to everybody. Someone stole my little pet house dog Sunday. I let him out and I have not seen him since. He would let me know when someone was around.
