Farm and Home NewsREX DOLLAR - EXTENSION AGENT, AGRICULTUREPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. This old saying still holds true in our world today. Recently in northwest Arkansas a man was sold a chemical product called SK-132. The product was sold by an out-of-sate company via the telephone and cost the Arkansan $70 per gallon. Our fellow Arkansan was told that he did not need a chemical license to purchase the chemical. Also, the company selling the chemical made claims that the product would do things that it would not realistically do. Often companies of this type are hard to track down, because they are not legitimate. If the individual purchasing this chemical does not have the success promised the situation ends as a very expensive hard lesson learned. A legitimate operator will not do business in this manner. It is best not to purchase any chemical over the telephone no matter how good the claim may sound. Southwest Arkansas is not immune from this type of telephone sale scam. In fact within the past few years similar instances of this occurring in our area have been brought to our attention. If you receive this type of telephone solicitation contact the Arkansas State Plant Board at (501) 225-1598, or contact the Extension office at 887-2818 if you are uncertain about the product being sold.
