Rose Garden ClubPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Rose Garden Club met in the lovely home of Nettie Lemons on December 12 at 1 p.m. with Betty Turner as co-hostess. The home was beautifully decorated in the Christmas motif. Following a delicious dessert, Betty Turner, president, presided over the business session. She read in inspiring Christmas story, A Celebration of the Star. Allene Spencer had purchased a beautiful book, Fresh and Dried Flowers A Complete Guide to Floral Arranging, by Fiona Barnett and Lerence Moore, which will be placed by the members in the Nevada County Library in memory of Max Hairston. The book covers all phases of flower arranging and is beautifully illustrated with lovely pictures. A discussion was held concerning the problem with litter in the city and Nevada County and what could be done about it. It was decided to take this up with the city beautification committee. Ann Pounds presented a most-interesting and informative program using native materials she had picked along the country side. She brought a wreath she had made with magnolia leaves and one made with pine. She showed how to use them in various ways. She also illustrated how to use candles interchangeably with different materials. She made a kissing ball using mistletoe. Leona Ballard brought a lovely Christmas arrangement. The members enjoyed a Christmas ornament exchange. They went home with a feeling of Christmas in the air. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
