Nevada Board HonoredPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Nevada School board has been named an honor school board by the Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA). The award will be presented at its upcoming board meeting. To achieve the honor board recognition a majority of the local board's members have earned at least 15 hours of in-service training and continuing education through workshops, seminars or other association activities designed to improve their effectiveness as members of their local school board. The award is part of a three-prong boardmanship program designed by ASBA to foster ongoing and continuous education for Arkansas school board members. The program recognizes individuals and entire boards. There are 310 local school boards in Arkansas. The Arkansas School Boards Association is a nonprofit service organization that provides a variety of services to the over 1,800 locally elected school board members in the state. Ownership of all Nevada County Picayune content from the beginning of the newspaper, including predecessors, until May 2001 was contributed by the John and Betty Ragsdale family to the Prescott Community Freenet Association.
