2001 Budget Approved By Quorum CourtBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Nevada County has a working budget heading into the new millennium. The county's budget for 2001 is $1,532.520.90, as approved by the Nevada County Quorum Court at its regular monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 11. Actually, the budget is $1,744,171.58, with the aforementioned figures being 90 percent of this. Government entities leave themselves a 10 percent cushion for emergencies. This figure includes a 3 percent raise for all county officials and employees. A breakdown of the different departments's budgets shows the County Judge's Office approved for $34,785.58. The County Clerk's budget for 2001 is $79,028.01, with the Circuit Clerk budget set at $84,553.22. The budget for the Nevada County Treasurer's Office will be $54,957.38, with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office to have $246,773.17 at its disposal. The Tax Collector's budget was approved at $77,901.79, with the Assessor's budget being $286,786.44. The Nevada County Equalization Board has a budget of $2,750 for the coming year, while 8th Judicial District North Circuit-Chancery Judge Jim Gunter's office's budget is $14,781.53. One of the smaller budgets is for the probate court at $600. The budget set for the quorum court is $30,475.83, with the municipal court's budget $49,891.10. As has been the case for the last two years, the juror/witness budget has been set at $16,500, should there be any major court cases in 2001. Budget for the juvenile court was approved at $27,726.05, while the juvenile intake budget will be $24,633.66. The prosecuting attorney and his deputy in Nevada County have a budget of $16,656.13. Courthouse maintenance has a budget of $68,284.49, with the county jail's budget being $237,592.46. The court approved $13,300 for the Nevada County Health Unit, and $10,800 for the Nevada County Election Commission. A total of $12,163.15 has been set aside in the civil defense budget, while the coroner's office will receive $5,639.08 for 2001. The Nevada County Ambulance Service will see an increase in its budget of $10,000, as the court approved $50,000. The NCAS receives funding from both the city of Prescott and Nevada County, with the city putting in $30,000 this year, and the county filling in the remaining $20,000. The Nevada County Extension Service's budget will be $12,947, with the court approving $13,015.15 for grants and aids. Of this, the Nevada County Rescue Unit will receive $6,000, the Soil Conservation Service will get $4,000, with Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District to receive $1,515 and the Department of Human Services budgeted $1,500. The court set aside $60,279.80 for other county expenses. These expenses include the day service center, the senior citizen's center, the Nevada County Fair Association, the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office's industrial recruiter, the weather center and the Ila Upchurch group. From there, the budget turns to the Nevada County Road and Bridge Department. This department has a budget of $1,042,926.76, after the 10 percent set aside has been removed. Otherwise, the budget would be $1,150,807.64. This budget breaks down with salaries for two mechanics, nine operators, five truck drivers, four laborers and a third of the Nevada County Judge's salary. These salaries amount to $351,229.20. The remainder of the budget is for equipment, parts and supplies. The Nevada County Library budget for 2001 will be $27,972.50. Nevada County's Solid Waste Department has a budget of $432,491.92. The 9-1-1 emergency telephone services budget is $97,950. A recorder for the NCSO will be purchased at a cost of $25,000, while the computer program for making new maps will be an additional $10,000. The estimated revenue for the weather warning system fund is $65,250, while its budget is $8,500, as requested.Estimated revenue for the boating safety group is $4,409.71, with its budget approved at $1,500 as requested. The jail revenue estimate is $253,039.3, with $1,500 being requested and approved. For the recorder's cost budget, the anticipated revenue is $27,163.42, with $5,000 being approved upon request. The anticipated revenue for the sheriff's equipment fund is $2,420.71, with $1,500 of this being requested and approved for 2001. All of the $2,700 for the crime coordinator fund's anticipated revenue was approved for spending by the court. According to the budget, the estimated revenue for child support will be $17,768.75, with $4,541.77 being requested and approved.
