Several strong industrial prospects are developing for Nevada County and work continues as another industry keeps looking at soil preparation costs is the message Nevada County Quorum Court heard during its meeting Monday, December 11.

Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office Director Jon Chadwell told JPs an extremely serious prospect for the industrial park in Prescott has reached the land negotiation stage.

Chadwell told justices a lease contract is being examined by both sides for the property that would eventually sell the property to the industry when it locates.

Chadwell's second announcement to justices informed the group a company has been approved for state funding to locate a two-part facility, training and manufacturing plant, in the building which formerly housed Nevada County Hospital.

He told JPs this was the best looking prospect to date for the building, which has been closed for several years.

The third prospect, which has been considering a site in northern Nevada County for well over a year, recently renewed land options as it continues to study soil preparation costs.

Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Manager Mary Godwin filled JPs in on this timber-related prospect.

Godwin told justices that the company has performed all its soil tests and anticipate $3.8 million in soil preparation costs alone.

She stated the company is seeking financial help from the state just to stabilize the soil.

Godwin said the company has even gone as far as checking prices locally for concrete.

In other business justices also heard a report from Chadwell on the progress of the water project in northern Nevada County.

Chadwell said people can still sign up for the project until bids are published for the project.

He said bids will be sought after all easements are signed.

The city of Prescott is paying personnel to distribute information to those who have not signed up, according to Chadwell.

JPs also approved the budgets for 2001. See related article.

County employees received a $25 holiday bonus after approval by JPs. It has been determined by state auditors that turkeys, hams or gift certificates are illegal gifts to employees according to officials.
