Letter To The EditorPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesDear Editor, Christmas is right around the corner, but the spirit of Christmas has been prevalent in Gurdon for several weeks. The Gurdon Street Department, South Central Electric Cooperative, Entergy, and many other volunteers have made Gurdon a spectacular place to visit for the holiday season. The Christmas parade was a success and was made possible by the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce and the many people who donated time, money and provided floats and vehicles for the parade. Purchase of the new-lighted displays on Main Street was made possible by donations from a great number of generous individuals and businesses. The following deserve recognition for those donations to our city: J.S. Electrical Systems, C. Louis and Mary C. Cabe Foundation, Charles and Anita Cabe, Thomerson Drug Store, Thomason's Big Star, Plyler's Hardware, K&T Clothing, Austin's Variety Store, Pilgreen Electrical Service, Calley's Station, Shoe Box, Forget-Me-Knot Florist, Horne Funeral Home, Griffin Logging, Smithpeters Oil Co., Kelly White Logging, M&M Enterprises, KOOL Mix, First State Bank, Firstar Bank, Entergy and Jeanie Calley White. During this holiday season I want to encourage you to support your local businesses. They are very supportive of your city and are often responsible for the many projects that take place in your city throughout the year. And last, but certainly not least, we at City Hall want to wish you all a safe and very Merry Christmas and I hope that in the midst of the hustle and bustle of this holiday season that we encourage others to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
