Classy Moments from Cabe Middle School

Published Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

As you know we are out of school for the holidays. We missed two days due to the ice and power failure. As we returned to classes Friday we found the electricity was on and off, and on and off again. The cooks had extension cords running from various places to be able to get the turkey, dressing and rolls ready. My, it was good.

The Cabe Middle School Student Council talent show was a big success. We enjoyed various kinds of talent. Several students took part and it was very good. We enjoyed singing, dancing, members of the band playing their instruments, and a comedian.

Mrs. Downey had several of her sixth grade gifted and talented students to present a story time and the Grinch. They really did a great job.

Door prizes were awarded to students who had read at least a certain number of books. It was exciting watching the students as names were drawn. Great prizes were awarded.

Mrs. Clark's daughter sang a special song for the audience. Now, to be only five years old, she performed as though she was a professional. Thank you so much for entertaining us.

Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Hitt sang Twelve Days of Christmas as Mrs. Bullard and Mrs. Clingan were behaving themselves.

Virginia Giles was surprised as the students sang Happy Birthday to her. She was presented a family Bible from the faculty and staff. Mrs. Clingan read a poem to her to let her know how much she is appreciated by all of us at CMS.

Learning is a never ending process. Mrs. Clingan had just entered Wal-Mart, when in comes Lezlee White and is ready to recite The American Creed' for bonus points. Since we had been out of school she recited it right there in the store and did not make a mistake. Although there were several looks from shoppers, Lezlee never missed a word. Now that is dedication!

The eighth graders were saddened to see Melanie Shults check out of school Friday. She and her family will be moving to Springhill. Melanie will be greatly missed by one student particularly you guessed it, Amy Stiffler.

Santa made his visit to CMS. Most, if not all, students received candy bars and/or presents. It was a fun time for all, especially for Old St. Nick (no padding needed).

Guess it is about time to close as Randy Bell and Becky Noland have made it quite clear that they are ready to go home. Can you imagine?

A great big thank you to Jordan Purifoy and Dusty Craig for helping a certain teacher, as without you we just don't know what she would do.

We would like to express our sincere wishes for each of you to have a wonderful holiday. We will be back in class Jan. 2 making those Classy Moments at CMS.
