Council Positions Are AppointedBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Four vacancies on the Gurdon City Council were filled at the council's regular monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 11. Three people showed interest in Ward 1, held by Mickey Jones. She had requested to remain on the board, though she failed to file a petition for the November election. The other two seeking this spot were Jimmy Garner and Tommy Potter. Johnny McGuirt, an outgoing member of the council, said Jones had the experience and moved to have her remain. She was approved by a 5-1 vote, with Karen Parker the lone nay vote. For ward 4, the Rev. Ronald Scott had no opposition and was also appointed for another term. Two people had submitted an application to be the representative for Ward 5 Philip Giles and David Buck. Giles, because of his job, withdrew his name. This left Buck to be appointed to the council. McGuirt, the ward 6 representative, said he couldn't remain on the council for business reasons. Gurdon Mayor Rick Smith said one name had been submitted as his replacement, but needed to be checked before being appointed. As the council has five members, he said, this can wait until the January meeting. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
