Emmet Parade Participants Are Named

The city of Emmet's community seventh annual Spirit of Lights and Ornaments' parade was held Saturday, December 9, with great success of attendance among participants as well as community spirit throughout the streets of Emmet watching.

The parade was led by Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell as well as Emmet's auxiliary policeman Mike Otwell.

Emmet Baptist Church youth float with participants of Jordan and Justin Gatlin, Tyler and Zack Syata, Drake Hall, Haylee Bright, Jody Cox, William, Erin and Glen Adams, Laycon and Ty Moses, Kasie Banks, Sydney Clingman, Franki Rushing, Tobe Korenek, Rashion Reed, Lylishia Welch, Shalethia Reed, Blade Graves, Waylon Boyd, Jordan Taylor, Cody Cox, Carly Clingman, Miranda Grham, Britney White, Tori Allen, Falynn Rushing, Jannel Cook and Hanna Helmick was the first float.

Nevada County 911 coordinator and Dale Booker, Emmet Mayor, and his wife, Ann Booker, followed with the city of Emmet's float. Those on it included Brandon Parks, P.J. Parks, L.J. Otwell, Zack Otwell, Alex Otwell, Brian Graves, Mary Aparicio, Tina Aparicio, Wilma Otwell, Sabrina Otwell, Mauricio Aparicio, Matthew Reed and Tabatha Reed.

Following was Emmet High School's homecoming queen Nicole McCoy led be Rudolph (Jasmine Allen), but driven by Holly McKinnon. Other four-wheelers were Cody Jackson, Chad Cox and Kasie Banks. Myles Helmick was on a bike with four horses by Jessica Allen and Jackie Allen.

The Hair Loft float included Vickie Bennett and Bob and Vonda Moore.

Emmet Vision Association's (EVA) float had Ottis Chuck' Otwell, president, driving and included Greg Otwell, Alexandra Otwell, Sami Jo Otwell, John Keckler, Jennifer Keckler, Holly Otwell, Shane Otwell, Brianna Otwell, Ryan McBrayer, Trent McBrayer, Lauren Otwell, Misty White, Taylor and Tori Mayfield, Christy and Slade Walser.

Following was a car driven by Mrs. Leroy Winfield; her grandson Lavonte McKinney was with her.

Dr. Gene Ross, school superintendent, and his wife Frances rode on the Emmet School District float, which also included their grandchildren, Sydney Beth and Alex Ross.

Following was another car being driven by Kendall Stanhouse and Dustin Turner.

Emmet Elementary's peewee cheerleaders float was next with Lisa Gilbert, coordinator, Kamryan Bennett, Katie Gilbert, Hannah Vermillian, Adrienne Beard, Kayla Freeman and Melissa Miller.

Occupants of the Emmet city fire truck were Alisha Banks, Amanda Cornelius, Michelle Grand, Trey Baker, Travis Baker, Brook, James and Richie Ivey, Jonathan Freeman, Chance Miller, Tebarez Dixon, Sonia Baker, Richard Baker and Patricia Love. It was driven by fire chief Frank Faulkner and constable James Osborn

Of course Santa was also riding on the truck.

Emmet's Spirit of Lights and Ornaments' parade started the following year after EVA was established, hand-making these Christmas street light decorations for the city.

Following the parade refreshments were served at City Hall.

Helpers included vice president of EVA Jewel Allen, Geneva Hogans, Rosalind McBride, Kathy Villiard and Nell Duncan. Parade coordinator was Anita Allen.
