Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991. Mom's In Touch prayer group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, May 27, and Thursday, June 24. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind checks. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. The annual business meeting of Nevada County ARC will be Thursday, May 13, at 6 p.m. in the activity room of Nevada County Day Service Center. Goals will be set for the upcoming fiscal year, election of officers and directors held, and comments will be received from consumers, staff and the general public. All members, consumers, parents, staff and board members are urged to attend. There will be a board of directors meeting immediately following the annual business meeting. Pete and Anita Norman of Emmet are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Zowie Layne, on Thursday, April 22. She weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces and was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Ray and Mattie Norman of Washington. Great grandmother is Georgia Hill of Emmet. Zowie's sisters and brothers are Kayla Norman of Fulton, Zachery Norman of Emmet and Casey and Michaela Burnside of Emmet. There will be a retirement party for Bonita Willis on Sunday, May 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Blevins City Hall (old Bank of Blevins). She is retiring after 32 years of teaching. The Southwest Arkansas Bar-B-Que Association in Delight will hold its state championship cook-off Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22. There is guaranteed prize money of $5,000. Grand champion will be awarded a pit from KingFisher Kountry Kookers and other gifts. The gifted and talented program for Nevada Public Schools is now taking applications for nominations for the gifted program. If you believe that your child displays characteristics of giftedness, go by the office to pick up an application. Pat Bingham, G/T coordinator, will be glad to examine your child's SAT 9 test scores and academic performance. There will be a ribbon cutting and open house for The Whistlin Gopher Friday, May 14, at 10:00. The open house will go on all day. The Whistlin Gopher is located next to the Sonic on West First North. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The Downtown Development Committee wants you. If you have ideas to share and a positive approach to the revitalization of downtown Prescott, you qualify. There will be a meeting Friday, May 14, at noon at the Chamber of Commerce office. Homecoming will be celebrated at Antioch Baptist Church in Laneburg Sunday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at the church. There will be special singing in the afternoon. Bro. James Adams will bring the morning message. Revival services will be held May 17 through 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Bro. Arlis East will be the evangelist. The decedents of Wyatt Harris will be hold their annual family reunion at Prescott Housing Authority Sat., May 15, starting at 10 a.m. Potluck lunch will be served at noon. All friends and relatives are invited. The Emmet PTA will meet Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m. in the Emmet School cafeteria. The Gospel Soul Searchers from Springhill, La., and the Pastor's Aid Club will render their annual musical program Sunday, June 6, at Shorter Chapel AME Church in Blevins beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Commodities will be issued on June 24 at the Senior Citizens Center in Prescott. Your card must be re-evaluated before commodities can be received. The Prescott Middle School cheerleaders will have a car wash at the Methodist Church in Prescott Saturday, May 15, from 10:00 to 2:00. The cheerleaders are raising money for cheerleader camp and uniform expenses. The Ambassadors will be in concert at Bodcaw Baptist Church, Highway 53 in Bodcaw, Saturday, May 15 at 7 p.m. Also featuring the Central Baptist Church Quartet from Prescott. Everyone is invited.
