Sebastian To Be Honored By Henderson StatePublished Wednesday, December 13, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Alumni Association of Henderson State University (HSU) will recognize Marion McQueen Sebastian with the Distinguished Alumni Award at the University's winter commencement ceremony December 15 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Wells Center Gymnasium. This award is the highest honor a graduate of Henderson can receive, and is given to graduates who have attained outstanding accomplishments in their lives. Sebastian graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in 1959 with a bachelor of science in education degree in home economics. She later graduated from Georgia State University with her master's and education specialist degrees in elementary education. In her 26 years of teaching Sebastian has earned numerous honors, including the National Association for Gifted Children's national educator of the tear award in 1993. She has been state president of the Georgia Supporters of the Gifted and is the co-author of a series of classroom books for grades one through five, entitled Critical Thinking/Problem Solving. Sebastian has spent the last 20 years teaching gifted students at the elementary level in gifted education in Georgia. She is the daughter of Anna May and the late O.A. McQueen of Emmet. Her siblings, who also were graduates of Henderson State University, are Charlotte Britton of Prescott; Michael of Hope and Don of California. Sebastian's family has lived in the Atlanta area since 1971. She and her husband Emo have two children, Carla, who is also a school teacher in Gwinnett County, and Greg, who is a lawyer.
