Classy Moments from Cabe Middle School

Published Wednesday, December 13, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

I must correct a mistake made in the last article. We will dismiss school at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, and not at 1:00 p.m. I apologize for the wrong information. (Guess I was just anxious.)

The faculty and staff of the Gurdon School District enjoyed a delicious dinner and great fellowship at the annual Christmas faculty/staff dinner. Winnie Clark provided the entertainment. She sang several Christmas carols to make the Christmas spirit felt by those attending. Clark had a special song that involved "the ailing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," (alias, Mr. Smithson) and his red-neck cousin, "Leroy Reindeer," (alias, Mr. Alexander). The performance had the audience in stitches from laughing so much. Poor old Rudolph did not feel good at all, but his cousin Leroy was feeling great. He put on a show.

Several merchants provided items for door prizes. They were K&T Clothing, Plyler's Hardware, Thomerson's Drug Store, Thomason's Big Star, Billy's Main Street Florist, Kuhn's Sentry Hardware, First State Bank, Sue's Hallmark, Karen's Candy Kitchen, Woolf's Service Station, Napa- D&D Automotive, Michelle's Tax Service, The Hair Barn and American Made. Such nice items; everyone was anxiously awaiting for their name to be called to receive a gift. Those who did win were excited about their prizes, especially James Guthrie! I believe he has a BIG picture of a police car. Other winners were Gary Griffin, Linda Myers, Rebecca Hastings, Kim Dickerson, Christen Hatley, Angie Henry, Teresa Williams, Marsha Griffin, Van Williams, Helen Perine, Jesse Runyan, Allen Wimberly, Dan Lemons, Vicki Otwell and others.

We were saddened to hear about Leonard Gills' brother dying. Our love and sympathy goes to Mr. Gills and the family.

The band will present their Christmas concert Thursday, Dec. 14, in the high school cafeteria at 7:00 p.m.

The talent show will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15 in the Cabe Middle School cafeteria. Several acts will be performed by various students. You are invited to attend this big event.

Shirrod Williams, a seventh grader, fell from a tree and broke his nose. He was at home at the time of the accident. It was a real bad break and he has had reconstructive surgery on his nose. Our thoughts are with him and hope he will have a great Christmas and will be back with us after the holidays.

The four student teachers will be leaving us Wednesday. A delicious potluck was prepared for the student teachers to just let them know how much we have enjoyed having them as part of CMS and hope they will let us know how their job hunting turns out.

We are really looking forward to Christmas as we make those Classy Moments at CMS.
