Workshop May 15 On How To Document And Preserve Cemeteries

As part of its celebration of Arkansas Heritage Month, the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will sponsor a workshop May 15 exploring ways to document and preserve historic cemeteries, State Historic Preservation Officer Cathy Slater of the AHPP announced.

The workshop will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Darragh Center for Intellectual Freedom in the Central Arkansas Library System Main Library at 100 Rock Street in Little Rock.

Tammie Dillon, the AHPP's education outreach coordinator and an expert in cemetery preservation, will lead the workshop.

Topics to be covered during the free workshop include the importance of cemeteries as educational sites, the best way to document the materials within a historic cemetery, preserving and restoring historic cemeteries, promoting awareness of the cemeteries, and the popular 'Tales of the Crypt' cemetery education program.
