Bluff CityJERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, December 6, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Last week's news must have been filed in file 13. I can remember back when I was in school when one of our teachers, Mrs. Frank Haltom, would tell us to put our chewing gum in file 13. That's what she called the wastebasket. Claudis Nelson is having trouble getting over some flu-like symptoms he has had since before Thanksgiving. Nell Wanda McKelvy has been sick for several days. Mrs. Helen Kelley is still in St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana after surgery for a broken hip. She fell at her home several days ago. She is in Room 570 South. Doris Barlow is still having trouble with her back and has an appointment this week to see what type of treatment is needed. Joey McKelvy has returned home from his military training at Ft. Benning, Ga. One thing he missed was not being able to go hunting, although he did tell me of an incident in which some wild turkeys crossed the firing range during practice. That was a bad decision on the turkey's part. Bluff City was mentioned on page 3E of the 12-2-2000 issue of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. It was a factitious article concerning some killer deer that had gone on the rampage killing about 20 hunters. The article said they had isolated the herd just south of White Oak Lake State Park in eastern Nevada County. Some people around the state actually believed this story when it was first published a week earlier. If you are looking for an epitaph for your tombstone, you might consider this from a fellow I correspond with from Georgia. He says this one about puts it all in a nutshell. "First I wasn't. Then I was. Now I ain't ag'in." A thought: Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
