Local Teams Struggling As 7AAA Action Starts

It's been a rough week for the Wolves and Wolverettes, as both teams dropped games to Bismarck and McNeil.

However, the Wolves managed to hammer Gurdon, 64-29, in the opening round of the Southern Arkansas University Tournament Saturday, Dec. 2.

PRESCOTT 75

The Wolves seemed to have this game in hand until the final quarter, when the Eagles outscored Prescott 24-13 and steal the win.

Prescott opened the game by taking a 22-16 lead at the end of one, and held a 46-38 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Wolves remained in the lead, and were up five, 62-57, heading into the fourth period.

The Wolves netted six of 14 free throws, while the Eagles converted seven of 12 from the line.

Kevin Fulks and Brandon Young led Prescott with 16 each. Justin Tidwell added 14.

D. Berry was the game's high scorer for McNeil with 19. J. Christopher contributed 16, with A. Colvin adding 11 and R. Cross scoring 10.

PRESCOTT 57

BISMARCK 62

Free throw shooting was the difference in the outcome as Prescott fell 62-57 to Bismarck Friday, Dec. 1 to open play in the 7AAA West conference.

The Lions shot lights out, hitting 27of 33 from the line, while Prescott was below the 50 percent line, converting 10 of 24.

However, the Wolves managed to stay even with the Lions in the first quarter, as the period ended with the score 11-11.

Bismarck started pulling away in the second quarter, and held a 27-19 lead at halftime.

The Lions managed to increase the gap in the third period, as they led 43-31 heading into the final eight minutes. The Wolves fought back, but were unable to overcome the deficit.

Fulks again led the way with 20, while Young added 17.

Weatherford led Bismarck with 25, with Tucker scoring 20.

PRESCOTT 64

GURDON 29

The Wolves took their frustrations of the week out on Gurdon in the first round of the SAU tourney, putting the Devils in the cooler 64-29.

Neither team got off to a quick start as the Wolves held a slim 8-7 lead at the end of one.

From there, though, Gurdon never stood a chance as the Wolves went on a tear.

Halftime arrived with Prescott holding a 10-point lead at 25-15.

The warpath continued in the third quarter as Prescott doubled Gurdon in scoring 16-8, and led 41-23.

Prescott's defense tightened in the final eight minutes, surrendering only six points, while the offense heated up and poured in 23.

Tidwell took control of scoring with 17 points. Fulks and Young scored 10 each.

Dorsey Kelly led Gurdon with 10.

Still, in spite of the win the Wolves were woeful at the line, hitting only four of 16 free throws. Gurdon hit two of four.

WOLVERETTES 41

MCNEIL 100

Prescott's senior girls found out why the Lady Eagles are one of the top teams in the area as they fell 100-41 Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The Wolverettes were never given a chance to get in the game as the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 28-8 lead in the first quarter.

The situation didn't improve in the second period as McNeil pushed its lead to 46-22.

The Wolverettes had a harder time scoring in the third quarter, while the Lady Eagles seemed to score at will. The frame ended with the score 74-32.

Brandy Jackson led Prescott's attack with 22 points, while Sophia Dunn scored 10.

E. Burnell was the game's leading scorer with 50 as she was unstoppable all night.

M. Murphy contributed 19 to the win, with S. Porchia scoring 14. E. Ewell scored 13.

Prescott was three of eight in free throws, while McNeil hit nine of 17.

PRESCOTT 36

BISMARCK 64

Three periods of scoring less than 10 points proved to be more than Prescott could overcome in their conference opener against Bismarck, Friday, Dec. 1.The Lady Lions posted a 64-36 win over Prescott.

Bismarck took a 15-8 lead at the end of the first period, stretching it to a 36-15 lead by halftime.

Prescott's situation didn't improve in the third as the score was 46-21 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Wolverettes were four of 14 from the line, while the Lady Lions hit 13 of 19.

Jackson paced Prescott with 15.

Rogers led all scorers with 19 for Bismarck, while Allen had 13.

PRESCOTT 30

WICKES 41

Wickes's Lady Warriors sent Prescott home after one game in the SAU Tournament Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Wolverettes fought hard, but trailed 10-9 at the end of one and were down 23-13 at the break.

Down but not out, the Wolverettes turned up the defensive pressure, allowing Wickes to score but two points in the third.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Prescott trailed 25-23 and appeared to be poised to win. However, the Lady Warriors had other ideas and outscored the Wolverettes 16-7.

Prescott was five of 10 from the line, while Wickes hit 17 of 24.

Dunn led Prescott with 15 points.
