Gurdon Primary School's "word of the month" for December is compassion. Compassion is the desire to help others.

The Close-Up chili supper will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, before the Gurdon Christmas parade. The supper will be held at the Hoo Hoo Building with a plate costing $3.50 containing a bowl of chili, crackers, cheese, desert and tea.

The supper will end in time for the parade, which begins at 6:00.

The Church of God on Carrie St. with Pastor Ivory Curry will present its Christmas program on Dec. 13 at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

The annual Christmas concert for the junior and senior choirs will be Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gurdon High School cafeteria. Choir director Sandra Hitt invites parents and the public to attend.

Red Springs EHC will meet at the home of Judy Hittenrauch for this month's meeting Dec. 14 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in her home only for this month.

Dance to the music of The Music Makers' at the Senior Adult Center in Arkadelphia Thursday, Dec. 14, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Admission will be $3 per person with finger foods available.

The regular board of directors meeting of the Area Agency on Aging of West Central Arkansas will be on Thursday, December 7, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Area Agency on Aging office, 905 West Grand Avenue, Hot Springs.

The public is invited to attend. All business meetings conducted by the board of directors except those dealing exclusively with internal personnel matters are open to the public. This is in compliance with the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act.

The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather.

Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
