Methodist Church Plans CelebrationPublished Wednesday, December 6, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesThe birth of Jesus will be celebrated at the First United Methodist Church with two special services on Dec. 10. The morning service will feature the chancel choir in the presentation of the musical Touched By a Child, Touched By a King by John Purifoy. Chancel choir members include Martha Thomas, Bonnie Wimberly, Marsha Porcelli, Kara Thomas, Mary Lou Stroud, LaDawne Simpson, Patricia Childers, Mary Ann Newton, Janice Sonahoue, Allen Wimberly, Eric Hittenrauch, Billy Tarpley, Paul Barringer and Daryl Potratz. The performance will be directed by Jerry Don Childers and will be accompanied by Billie Jean Miller. Serving as narrator will be Martin Downey, Emily Thomas, Colby Pace, Matthew Lynch and J.T. Tarpley. The evening service will include a variety of yuletide selections presented by the children's choir and the Christmas carillon. The program will be under the direction of Jerry Childers and Jennifer Gatin. Children's choir members are Devan Jester, Hannah Jones, Dillon Maxwell, Forrest Stricklin, Josh Barbineaux, Thom Ross White, Wes Boulden, Dustin Gates, Haley Harris, Tyler Waters, Brittney Dickerson, Emily Blanton, Maci Blanton, Raliegh Williams, Caleb Jones, Dustin Simpson, Christopher Dickerson, Wade Williams, Brian Hittenrauch, Leah Boulden, Allyssa Blanton, Rylee Maxwell, Zack Smith, Ethan Jones, Garrison Wimberly and Austin Halliday. Handbell choir members are Krissi Dairee, Natalie Tarpley, Carolanne Duke, Lezlee White, Jessie Livingston, Brandon Bradshaw, Lauren Coston, Josh Jordan and Derrick Puckett.
