Gurdon's senior girls fell to 3-4 on the season after a 50-33 loss to Blevins Friday, Dec. 1.

The game began with the Lady Hornets taking the tip and scoring.

From there, though, turnovers marred the contest and neither team was able to score much.

At the 6:46 mark, Blevins led 4-1.

It was a physical affair with players on both sides spending quality time on the floor diving after loose basketballs and simply being knocked down by the intense play. It was even rougher in the paint, to the point of being dangerous.

Gurdon was able to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:16 left in the first, only to see the Lady Hornets outscore them 7-2 for the rest of the quarter.

The Lady Devils were in the bonus almost at the start of the second period because of the harsh play, but had problems hitting free throws.

Blevins began pulling away, going up 17-8 with 5:17 left in the half, before the Lady Devils went on a 5-0 run to make it 17-13 with 2:53 to go in the quarter.

The Lady Hornets were able to score the final three points of the half, and went to the locker room leading 20-13.

The Lady Devils were more settled down in the third quarter, but still had problems putting the ball in the hole.

Gurdon forced turnovers, drove the court, but had the ball bounce off the iron and land in the hands of a Lady Hornet.

In spite of the adversity, the Lady Devils were able to narrow the margin to 22-21 with 5:50 left in the third.

At this point the Lady Hornets began using a full-court press and forcing turnovers of their own. Blevins did a better job at converting turnovers into points than Gurdon as they outscored the Lady Devils 11-2 for the rest of the quarter and led 34-23 at the end of three.

The Lady Devils kept battling, but had fits with the Blevins press. Still, Gurdon was able to get within 10 at 39-39 with 4:59 showing.

As the game wound down, Gurdon was forced to foul, with Blevins hitting more than they missed and taking the win.
