And lo the heavens opened and it rained, and rained and rained.

This has been November's weather up to Friday, Nov. 24, as the county has been drenched with rain almost constantly.

According to John Teeter, Prescott's meteorologist, it rained almost all night for Thanksgiving, and for the 24 hours from 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23 to 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, it had rained 2.62 inches in the city.

This brings the month's total to 11.08 inches he said, while the normal amount of rain received in November is around eight inches.

This is the first time to be ahead of the norm in a month for a long time, he said.

Davis Benton, Cale's weatherman, said the holiday's system dropped more than five inches of rain in the southern part of Nevada County during a 24-hour span.

The rains of June and November, Benton said, have provided the county with most of the rain it's received for the year.

As of Nov. 24, he said, Cale has received 11.30 inches for November, with more rain expected. In June the total was 12.50 inches. Combined, the two months have provided 33.80 inches of the nearly 45 inches the south part of the county has seen to date.

Along with the rains has come flooding in low lying areas and some trees being blown across roads in the county.

Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown said the damage wasn't as bad as he expected.

"There were no major problems," he said. "A couple of bridges were flooded and some roads washed out. It surprised me it wasn't worse than it was with the rain we got."

There were reports of some roads in the Nevada School District still having water across them Monday morning, Brown said, but buses were able to cross with no problem.

A bridge on county road 20 may need to be replaced because of the rains, he added. This bridge is east of the intersection of county roads 20 and 35 at Cox Creek.

Brown said this is a low bridge and water gets over the top of it whenever there is much rain.

"I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it," he said.

Residents in the area are fortunate as there are several ways to avoid the bridge.
