Red Springs EHC

The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club met Nov. 9 at the Gurdon Municipal Building with Tootsie Dempsey presiding and leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The history of the Pillsbury Doughboy was given by Judy Hittenrauch. Sybil Harris gave the program, Every Vote Counts.' She reported an election once held was won by just one vote. Had that person stayed at home and not voted the election would have been lost.

Eighteen members answered roll call by giving their age when they first voted.

A report on the fall council meeting Oct. 18 at Bowen's Restaurant was given with Red Springs membership well represented.

Rev. Paul Sheets brought the devotion, Elvin McBride was the auctioneer, a moment of silence was held for member who died during the year. Maggie Sue Currey and Mattie Tally were among the nine deceased.

Lorece Friemon was recognized as the County Homemaker of the Year.

Jean Toland helped with registration and members provided musical interludes on the piano and accordion.

Canned foods will be collected at the December meeting for the Christmas food basket. The Homemaker's Prayer was read and the meeting was adjourned. Georgia Schee gave the blessing of the food and Dorothy Nilz and Denice Ezell served as hostesses.

After lunch Tommie Rhodes conducted a workshop on making Christmas ball ornaments.

As a community service project fourteen members met at the municipal building Nov. 11 to make various Christmas ornaments to decorate the tree in the activity room at Twin Rivers Nursing Home in Arkadelphia.
