Christmas in Arkadelphia will officially begin Thursday, Dec. 7, with Santa Claus making his first appearance.

This will happen during the annual Arkadelphia Christmas Parade.

The parade will begin at 5 p.m., though floats will have to line up at 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of 12 and Main streets.

This year's theme is "Arkadelphia Celebrates Old Traditions for a New Age."

The parade will travel down Main to Fourth, around to Clay and end in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot.

Schools, organizations, churches and businesses are encouraged to get involved in the parade.

This year there will be three top places in the float division; three for decorated vehicles; and three for walkers.

The entries will be judges based on overall appearance, creativity and theme.

Deadline for entering is Monday, Dec. 4.

Those in the parade are asked not to throw candy or use Santa in their design as he will be presented at the end of the parade.

The parade is being sponsored by the Arkadelphia Women's Development Council and Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

For entry forms or more information call Carrie Roberson at 246-5542.
