Gurdon Christmas Parade Is December 8BY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 29, 2000 in the Gurdon Times In a little more than a week, it will be time for the annual Gurdon Christmas parade. Gurdon's annual Christmas Parade has been scheduled for Friday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m., with more than $400 in prizes and gift certificates to be awarded. The parade will follow its traditional route through downtown Gurdon. However, the fun begins at 5 p.m. with plenty of other Christmas entertainment. Area choirs are planning to perform. Those wanting to participate in the parade need to start lining up at 5:30 p.m. in the Thomason's Big Star parking lot. Area bands, school groups, day cares, civic clubs, churches and youth groups are encouraged to get involved. There will be three prizes awarded by the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce for the floats. First prize will be $75, while second place takes $50 and third place gets $25. The theme for this year's parade is "Celebrating Christmas in Gurdon for 120 Years". As part of the festivities, many downtown merchants will be registering for gift certificates on the day of the parade. The chamber will draw for a $100 and two $50 gift certificates, redeemable at any Gurdon Chamber retail merchant. The winners will be announced following the parade at the Main Street stage.
