Hazel Carrie Purifoy Turner, 98, of Reader died Thursday, November 23, 2000.

Mrs. Turner was born September 28, 1902, to Webster and Salley Purifoy of Chidester. She operated Turner Grocery Store in Reader from 1955 until 1997. Many people remember stopping through Reader to have a bottled Coke in her store. Often times her husband, Nat, would be found sitting on the front porch of the store whittling. She was a member of Reader Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, six brothers, five sisters and her husband, Nathaniel Turner.

Survivors include her son, Edward Turner, and his wife Betty of Prescott; one grandson, Greg Turner, and his wife Lydia of Reader; two granddaughters, Terri Turner of Texarkana and Ellen Turner of Batesville; five great grandchildren, Shelly, Ashley, Matthew, Nathan and Jacob Turner; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 25, at Reader Baptist Church. Burial was in Bluff City Cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
