Supplemental Security Income pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible call 1-800-772-1213. To any woman who would like to get together with another woman to pray may get in touch with the local area contact person of Moms in Touch, Beth Ward, at 870-887-6376. For the past three years the local schools have been covered in prayer by a group of moms who meet on Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church to pray for one hour. A coffee and ribbon-cutting will be held at Nevada County Picayune Thursday, December 7, from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. The ribbon-cutting will take place at 10:00. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited. An open house will be held that evening immediately following the Christmas parade as part of the Chamber of Commerce's Christmas on the Square celebration. Jessica Jackson, Jordan Lacey and RC Ragsdale, grandchildren of John and Betty Ragsdale, will sing Christmas carols during this open house. The Emmet junior class is selling $1 donations on a mussel loader gun through December 19. The drawing will be held on December 19. The drawing will be held on the morning of December 19. See any junior class member to buy a ticket. The Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the best decorated window contest. The contest is for any retail merchant or business. There is no entry fee. The contest is to promote the Christmas season for the area. Simply call the chamber office to enter at 887-2101. Windows will be judged on originality, creativity, merchandising and overall beauty. The deadline to enter is December 5. Judging will be December 6. The winner will be announced the night of Christmas on the Square, December 7. The winner will receive their name on a traveling plaque to be displayed in their business for the year. The Emmet School board will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, December 4, at 7 p.m. in room 4. The agenda will include elementary and high school principals' reports, superintendent's report, consider changing January board meeting to January 8 and personnel matters. The Nevada County Friends of the Library will meet December 7 at 5:00 p.m. This meeting is the annual meeting of the Friends of the Library. New board members will be selected and officers will be elected for the upcoming year. All interested persons are invited to attend this meeting. First Baptist Church of Prescott will be having its Clothes Closet (free clothes) Saturday, December 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the gymnasium. Prescott Big Star will be celebrating its grand opening next week with its new owners. A lot of prizes will be given away along with special prices throughout the store.
