Curley Wolves Blast Go-Devils, 81-57

Prescott's senior boys humbled Gurdon's Go-Devils to open basketball season Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The Wolves chewed the Devils up 81-57, in a game marred by fouls. There were 81 free throws taken by the two teams, with only 45 being made.

However, the Wolves were 30 of 54, while Gurdon hit 15 of 27 from the line.

The game began with both teams playing evenly. In fact, the first quarter ended with Prescott holding a slim 18-15 lead.

But, this was as close as Gurdon would get as the Wolves roared to a 40-29 halftime lead, and were up 61-40 by the end of the third quarter.

Kevin Fulks paced the Wolves with 26 points as the game's leading scorer. Justin Tidwell and Cory Yarbrough scored 13 each.

D. Kelly led Gurdon with 17, while Norris Glenn had 10.

Prescott was 24 of 45 from the field, including one of three from beyond the arc. The Wolves pulled down 33 rebounds, with 11 offensive and an impressive 22 defensive.

The Wolverette's domination of Gurdon ended in the season opener for Prescott Tuesday, Nov. 21, as they fell 69-46.

The Wolverettes played a solid defense early, but were unable to score consistently.

Gurdon, though, led the entire way, holding a 13-11 advantage after one and being up 37-23 at the half. The third quarter concluded with the score 50-26.

Brandy Jackson paced Prescott with 17, while Sophia Dunn scored nine.

Sally Beasley led the Lady Devils with 21, while Vonesha Young tossed in 15 and Lavonda Bufored added 14.

Prescott was 13 of 25 from the line, while Gurdon was 12 of 23.

Gurdon's junior girls jumped all over Prescott in the opening game of the night and posted a 43-14 win.

Prescott played close throughout the first half, leading 8-6 at the end of one, and trailing 19-10 at halftime, only to fall apart in the final 12 minutes.

The Cubettes were unable to score in the third quarter, as Gurdon pulled out to a 39-10 lead.

Prescott was two of four at the line, with the Lady Devils hitting nine of 14 free throws.

Madeline Taylor led the Cubettes in scoring with 10.

Lorena Bell led all scorers with 15, with Haley Griffin adding 14.

Prescott's junior boys got their season off to a good start with a 37-30 win over Nashville Nov. 9.

Prescott led 7-4 at the end of one and was up 21-13 at the break. By the end of three, the Cubs held a 33-20 advantage.

The Cubettes dropped game one of the year, 41-25 to Nashville.

The Scrapperettes led 5-4 after the first quarter, and 11-8 at halftime. The Cubettes stayed close in the third with the score 17-15, only to see Nashville run away in the final six minutes.
