Oak Grove NewsLULA KENDRICKPublished Wednesday, November 22, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Last week's news: We are getting plenty of rain. It is very much needed. I know the deer hunters hate to see this rain. They have been in my backyard like cows. I hope they can kill all of them. You can't grow anything to eat for the deer getting to it first. We had a good service Sunday. People have stopped church, but will go to singings. All of the ministers of the Magnolia District will have to go to Oklahoma Wednesday to get their appointment. They were sent back temporarily. They will be assigned to a church. Conference will begin Wednesday until Saturday in Oklahoma. Oak Grove finally called a pastor. The Rev. Parska, who is a young man from El Dorado. Oak Grove is a growing church with lots of young people. Josie Simpson is back in Medical Park Hospital in Hope. She is not doing well. Let's pray for her. What ever happens is God's will. Hats off to Mike Ross. It pays to be nice. He was really nice. He deserves the position. He is a young man and a home boy. The voters really turned out in Rosston. We really had a busy day. Harvest Day will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church Sunday afternoon. The speaker will be Sister Irina Tidwell from the Church of God in Christ of Willisville. This week's news: It is very cold. Winter weather is here. Harvest Day was held at Oak Grove Sunday. Sister Irina Tidwell spoke on Harvest, what harvest means, sharing what you have with others. All the pastors went to Oklahoma last week to a conference. They did some changes. Rev. Larry Banks went to St. Phillips in Magnolia. Rev. Lesly Banks went back to Rosston. Rev. Daniel Loe went to Ward Chapel, Rev. Enauch Montgomery went to Pine Grove, Rev. Calther was sent to Bethel in Hope and Rev. Curtis Dansby went back to Texarkana. Mrs. Mary Randle was buried Friday. She was 102 years old. She lived a long and useful life. Her funeral was held at Antioch Baptist Church. She served on the usher board for many yeas. She was living with her daughter at her death. Mrs. Louise Burse and friend stopped by Sunday morning to see me. I was glad to see her. She came to her son Maurice's wedding. He married someone from Hope. She reports her daddy is doing about the same. We really do miss her. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
