Vaccines Needed

Published Wednesday, November 22, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

Students in kindergarten, seventh grade and transfer students are now required by law to have three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine, according to the Prescott School District.

These doses are required before completing the school year.

One dose of the varicella or chicken pox vaccine is required for all kindergarten students. A parent-guardian or physician history of the disease may be accepted in lieu of the vaccine.

All school districts will have until January 1 to comply with these new requirements. Lori Arnette, nurse in the Prescott School District, is asking that proof of immunization be turned in by December 11 since the state deadline falls during the Christmas holiday break (December 18-January 1).

Any student who is not up to date or has shown no proof of starting the vaccinations before Christmas break will not be allowed to return to school on January 2. If your child receives immunizations on or before the deadline date (December 11), send a copy to your child's school office.

If you have any questions concerning your child's immunizations call your child's school or Arnette at 887-2514.
