Oak Grove District Civic League banquet was held Saturday, May 8, in the Oak Grove banquet room. The keynote speaker was Maurice Rigsby, political director for the Democratic party of Arkansas. he really was a good speaker. I wish more of the young people could have heard him. I am proud of Maurice, myself. He would always come by and say hello to me. He really was a good boy. I know Mrs. Rigsby is proud of her son.

We are getting some things done around Oak Grove with the help from Joe Hale who finished high school at Oak Grove.

The Mother's Day program was held at New Bethel AME Church Sunday, May 9, with Rev. Delton Ray Gulley as the guest speaker. His topic was 'I Am Not Here by Myself.' We had a good time in the Lord. We gave a gift to the oldest mother present. Genna Burnett was the oldest mother present. The youngest mother was Jennifer Henry. Mrs. A. Johnson was presented a gift and also Janet Smith was presented a small gift for being a faithful person.

Girtie Mae Staples visited her Aunt Girtie Blake on Mother's Day. She lives in Louisiana.

Mr. and Mrs. Claud Thorn went to Detroit, Mich., for Mother's Day to visit children. They also have a second home there. Mrs. Vera Purifoy went to Dallas, Texas, to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Rev. Lupo. Mrs. Johnnie Masha went back with her daughter Tessie to stay for a while. She is not well. Oree Joe came home to take his mother back to Rockford, but she did not go. At least he tried.

Therman Simpson is yet in Medical Park Hospital in Hope. He is not doing well. Let's pray for him and others who are on our sick list.
