Classy Moments from Cabe Middle SchoolPublished Wednesday, November 22, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesIt is so difficult to believe that we still do not have a new president-elect. This election of 2000 has certainly been a history making event. So much discussion has been done. Many times it is heard "what are they doing now?" It is definitely a good question, as it seems as though things change from hour to hour, deadlines change, lawsuits change, and of course votes are changing in Florida. The students at Cabe Middle School had no problems when they voted in the mock election held Nov. 6. Several have offered to go help them in Florida. Mrs. Clingan has been very pleased to see the interest continue in this election. It was thought after the mock election the discussion of the president would come to a stop until Jan. 20, but it is far, far from being discontinued. The junior high basketball teams are really making themselves heard. Those junior high girls have won two of three games. They defeated Stamps and Prescott and lost to Arkadelphia. Next time Arkadelphia better look out. Coach Alexander, we are proud of you and the team. The junior high boys have won one and lost one. They also won against Stamps and will be ready for Arkadelphia next time. Coach Ware and team, we are proud of you. Reader, if you like good basketball check with the school office and find out when games will be played at Gurdon and try to attend. Not only will you enjoy the game, but the players will know that you support them. What better group to be supportive of than our own students? We have a top notch gym to enjoy the games. Come to think of it, we have a lot to be proud of. Mr. Alexander took the citizen' students to lunch today. They enjoyed a delicious meal at Allen's Bar-B-Q. Wonder who enjoyed it most? The eighth grade social studies classes have been reciting the Preamble to the Constitution. It has been such enjoyment hearing those students recite and earning their points. The spotlight was shining on Richard Vasquez. He stood before his class and recited the Preamble and it was wonderful. Good job, Richard. The junior Beta inducted five new members Thursday. Mrs. Edrington, sponsor of Beta, did a great job of having the students ready for the occasion. Congratulations to Cody Miller, Allison Anderson, Jennifer Watson, Jodie Swayze and Tiffany Nolen as they are the new Beta members. A big thanks to Connie, Sue and Christy for the dedication of reading our article. That helps to make it all worthwhile when we hear about those who are interested in what we are doing. Progress reports were given out and most of them have been returned. It has been a busy week, but work does go on as we continue to make those Classy Moments at CMS.
