Bluff City

Last week's column was a reprint of a previous column. Sorry about that. This one may seem like old news, but I guess that's better than no news at all.

May 2 was homecoming day in Bluff City. There was plenty of good food to eat and the two-minute rain shower held off until everyone had finished eating. After enjoying the good meal, some of the men went home and took a nap. Some of the women had a better idea and decided to perambulate the cemetery.

I'm not sure who traveled the greatest distance to be at the homecoming. I did see Mr. and Mrs. Larnell Nichols from Lubbock, Texas, and Jody Nelson from Nashville, Tenn. Maybe they should give a prize to the one who travels the greatest distance.

Jody Nelson's sister, Aleta Haynes, was attending a seminar in Nashville just before homecoming and was able to hitch a ride back to Arkansas with Jody.

Jeanie McKelvy is celebrating an anniversary this week, but it's not a wedding anniversary. She is remembering that it was one year ago that she fractured her ankle, which required her to spend most of last summer in a cast.

Patricia and Charles Farr made a journey to north Arkansas a few days ago to visit Patricia's cousin.

Olen Loe attended a family reunion in Texas the first weekend in May.

I think everyone has their gardens planted by now and the race is on to see who gets the first ripe tomato. Gardening is hard work, but is a great way to relieve stress. You can take out your frustrations on all the weeds. Kin Hubbard once said, "In order to live off a garden, you practically have to live in it." Gardening tests your skill, your patience, your endurance, and your faith, but the rewards can be great. If some of these Y2K predictions come true, this might be a good year to have some food stored away.

Our thought this week is from someone named Earl Wilson: "If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments."
