Bluff City NewsBY JERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, November 15, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune It looks like I jumped the gun last week when I said the election was over. What a mess! We were there during a period of history that will be remembered from now on. Let's hope it will soon be settled, but half the population will be unhappy whichever way it goes. Deer hunting is in full swing around here. It would be a good time for the deer to go visit their city relatives. It seems like some animals aren't happy living in the woods. I heard a noise outside the house the other night, turned on the back porch light, and found two large possums sitting on our deck. They started fussing at each other and I thought we were going to see a possum fight. We named them Al and George. It was only a few weeks ago that a hummingbird joined me as I ate my lunch on the tailgate of my truck. It was interested in the can of Sprite I was drinking. It flew up into a nearby bush and drank from my can of Sprite as I held it for him. That doesn't happen every day. Millard and Elloene McBride were honored with cake and coffee after church services last Sunday night. They are celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary this week. I think that is an accurate number, so no recount will be needed. Here's an item from the year 1922 from the old Gooseankle community: A.C. Moody was thrashing peas in our community last week. Mr. Moody has an up-to-date pea huller and did some fine work for the people here this season. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
