Prescott Man Charged With Rape Of GirlBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 15, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune A 42-year-old Prescott man has been arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a six-year-old girl. According to court records, Jeffery Hawthorn was seen touching the child in a sexual manner, and penetrated her with a finger. His attempt to penetrate her with his penis was unsuccessful. According to the records, this occurred around Aug. 27. Hawthorn was arrested Thursday, Nov. 2, and has a trial date of Feb. 13, 2001. Rape is a class Y felony, carrying a sentence from 10-40 years or life in prison. Attempted rape, as he is also charged, is a class A felony.
