City-Wide Pep Rally Is Held For GHS

Published Wednesday, November 15, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Thursday, Nov. 9, evening was a memorable and historical evening for the community of Gurdon and those Go-Devil seniors.

For those loyal Go-Devils fans, you may have heard of our "senior Go-Devils," but do you really know these 13 football players, five cheerleaders and one band member?

If you were one of the many who attended the city-wide pep rally, you got a closer look at these individuals.

There was a slide show presentation that showed the closeness, hardworking, craziness, and serious side to each senior. This wonderful presentation was made possible by Teresa Griffin, Jodi Purifoy and Cassie Ross.

To go along with the slide show the senior football players and cheerleaders performed an emotional and touching skit. In slow motion these seniors displayed how time is just going by so fast for this football season and their senior year that they have to slow down to get that emotional feeling of one fumbled ball, one cheer, and even one touchdown.

Mayor Rick Smith, who was unable to attend and was represented by Allen Wimberly, band director, presented the declaration that November 10 in the town of Gurdon will be known as "Purple and Gold Pride Day."

As the evening was coming to a close, the crowd was on their feet ready to sing the fight song. Some people had no idea that there was even any words to this great, catchy tune. The cheerleaders provided everyone with the words and the band provided the music. Now, most of Gurdon cannot only yell at our football players, but sing to them as well.

This most unforgettable evening was closed out with the Gurdon Primary School teachers and students leading the crowd with the Gurdon's Alma Mater.

Thanks goes to all who attended this wonderful night, Wimberly said. It was very appreciated by all the senior football players, cheerleaders, and band member.
