I hope everyone is truly thankful for the nice rain we have received. We have been reminded the last year or so of how dependent we are on the blessings we sometimes take for granted.

The election is now over (or it will be when you read this). I think

the biggest winners were the radio, television and newspapers who received money for campaign ads.

Next week is deer season again and activity will really pick up in our part of the county. Both hunters and non-hunters need to be extra cautious during this time.

News is scarce this week. A few folks have been feeling puny the last

few days. Those involved pointed out they were not really sick, but that "puny" was not what they were feeling. There needed to be a stronger word to describe it. Any suggestions?

Someone sent me five pages listing old medical conditions from many years ago and what they meant. You come across these terms in old writings. Here are some conditions that might fit your idea of feeling "puny".

Debility was lack of movement or staying in bed. Decrepitude was feebleness due to old age. Day fever or diary fever was one that lasted only one day. Dysorexy was reduced

appetite. Grippe was influenza. Coryza was a cold. Rose cold was hay fever or allergy. Constiveness was constipation. Epistaxis was a nosebleed. Also on the list was Pott's disease, grocer's itch, yellowjacket, quinsy, trench mouth, and many more. I guess I had better stop before I get Scrivener's palsy.

See, you can always learn something by reading the Bluff City news. I hope none of you are suffering from any of the above conditions. After reading those you might just stick with the word "puny".
