Emmet's junior girls are playing .500 ball so far with a 1-1 record on the year.

The junior Lady Eagles demolished Umpire to open the season 32-12, but fell to Genoa 30-23 in their second outing.

EMMET 32, UMPIRE 12

With Haley Muldrow scoring 12 points on her own, the Lady Eagles were too much for Umpire to handle.

Emmet jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 28-3 at the break.

The Lady Eagles didn't score, and didn't need to, in the third period, while Umpire doubled its total to make the score 28-6.

K. Whitaker was Umpire's leading scorer with four points.

Emmet was 0-2 at the line, with Umpire hitting one of two free throws.

EMMET 23, GENOA 30

Genoa's junior Lady Dragons took a slim lead in the first and had to fight to hold it as the Lady Eagles refused to go away.

Emmet trailed 8-6 at the end of one, and was on the short end of a 16-13 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles took the lead at the end of the third quarter, 21-20, but were unable to hold it in the final six minutes.

Felicia Hopson led Emmet's offense with eight points, while Haley Muldrow scored seven.

MaryAnn Deaton paced Genoa with 12, while Ramsey added 10.

The Lady Eagles hit five of 10 free throws, while Genoa netted four of six from the line.

JUNIOR BOYS

Emmet's junior boys are 2-0 on the season with wins over Kirby and Umpire.

EMMET 38, KIRBY 35

It was a tough, hard fought game for the junior Eagles, but they managed to prevail 38-35 over Kirby's Trojans to open the season.

The Eagles defense almost kept Kirby scoreless as they posted a 7-1 lead at the end of one, and were up 11-5 at the break as both teams scored four in the second quarter.

Kirby battled back somewhat in the third quarter, but trailed 24-17, and turned up the heat in the final six minutes to make the game close.

Mario Hopson led Emmet with 11 points, with Josh Putman adding 10.

Sirmon led all scorers with 21 in the game.

Neither squad shot free throws particularly well. Emmet hit 10 of 24, while Kirby was 14 of 33.

In fact, much of the second half was played at the charity stripe as both teams shot 20 free throws in the third and fourth quarters.

EMMET 37, UMPIRE 20

There was no question about the outcome of the Emmet-Umpire game other than what the final score would be. It wound up 37-20 in Emmet's favor.

The Eagles jumped all over the Wildcats 20-2 in the first period and held a 24-9 halftime lead.

By the end of three, Emmet's lead had been increased to 29-9.

Josh Putman and Mario Hopson scored nine each for Emmet.

Legale paced Umpire with eight points.

The Eagles were three of eight at the line, while Umpire was 0-2.
