Seats Are Open On Gurdon City CouncilBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 8, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Though election time has come and gone, there are still vacancies on the Gurdon City Council. Gurdon Mayor Rick Smith said only two members of the council filed for re-election, thus leaving four seats open. But, of the open seats, three members of the panel have stated a willingness to return if they're reappointed. This leaves one ward with no representation, ward 6, currently held by Johnny McGuirt. However, just because the other three have expressed an interest in returning to the council, doesn't mean anyone else who wants to serve on the board won't be considered. Smith said anyone interested in being on the council from wards 1, 4, 5 and 6, needs to contact him at 353-2514. "The city can't operate without a council," he said. All interested parties will be considered for the open positions, with discussion on this scheduled for the regular monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 13.
