Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, May 12, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesCongratulations to Mrs. Green, fifth grade social studies teacher. The news is that she has a new baby daughter. The description sounds like she is a most beautiful baby, black hair, and weighs about 10 pounds. We are very happy for you and remember our thoughts are with you. Mrs. McMaster is teaching in Mrs. Green's absence. One particular teacher is looking for the delicious cookies that McMaster is famous for and hopefully will not suffer through disappointment! The teachers at Cabe Middle School were treated to a delicious barbecue dinner, prepared by Allen's in Gurdon. Tuesday was Teacher Appreciation Day and the luncheon was provided for that occasion. Mr. Alexander gave each teacher a Hanna's scented candle. My goodness, it was such a nice day! It seems as though each Tuesday is Teacher Appreciation Day. Is that true? Fifth and sixth grade reading teachers, Mrs. Davies and Mrs. Smithson, took the top five accelerated reading point earners from each grade and one from the seventh grade on an exciting field trip to Hot Springs. Mrs. Downy was to go with the group, but she was very busy with the Quiz Bowl competition. They went to Books-A-Million, shopping at the mall and had a delicious lunch at On the Border. TCBY was their next stop, and they thought it was great! Sean O'Connell learned it pays to shop around before making a major purchase! He paid $40 for a Furby at the toy store only to have Krissi Davies tell him she paid only $30 at Wal-Mart! Really makes one feel good, right, Sean? Becky Lee was the seventh grader to make the trip along with sixth graders T.J. Parker, Caleb Deaton, Kyle Berline, Amy Stiffler and Melanie Shults. The fifth graders were Ashley Floyd, T.C. Berline, Sean O'Connell, Krissi Davies and Summer Dickey. Those sixth graders enjoyed the trip so much, as they were traveling 'in style.' They rode with Mrs. Smithson and she has a TV in her van, so you can only imagine what her passengers were doing. Of course, they had to tell the fifth graders that they got to watch TV on the way to Hot Springs while those fifth graders just rode in the van driven by Don Davies. Nothing more to say. Stopping off in Arkadelphia, they went to the bowling alley and arcade. Kyle Berline is the champion of bowlers. This will be an annual event for the accelerated reading program, which gives the opportunity for several students to qualify next year. Many, many thanks to Mrs. Davies and Mrs. Smithson for taking these students out for a day they will long remember. Don, you might consider having a TV installed in your van. Eight graders were so excited when they received their caps and gowns. Graduation will be May 25 at 7:00 p.m in the high school gym. Hopefully you will make plans to attend this event, as it will be the first for the eighth graders. Next week we will report on the Quiz Bowl results. Until that time, continue to care about us as we make those Classy Moments at CMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
