GHS Band Earns Excellent RatingsPublished Wednesday, November 1, 2000 in the Gurdon Times"This year's mighty marching Go-Devil band is truly one of the greatest bands I have had the privilege of leading," Allen Wimberly, director of bands in the Gurdon School District, said in a news release last week. "This band played a very challenging show and did a great job." Band members earned excellent ratings at all their contests. One may say that last year's band earned superior ratings, but this band did not, how can it be one of the best? It's simple, Wimberly says, the directors decided to play music and march drill design that 3A and 4A bigger schools and bigger bands do. "These students can hold their head up very high," he said. "They also competed in a higher level than they had to this year. The directors don't want anyone looking down at that small school and saying they are a good band for a small school. They are a good band, because they have a great work ethic, they accept the challenges of the band directors and they are determined to succeed." So, if there are any doubters out there, your mighty marching Go-Devil band is as mighty as ever and very successful. If you haven't seen them this year go out and enjoy a wonderful show.
