Halloween Carnival SetBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, October 25, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Prescott's Future Farmers of America club will be putting on a Halloween Carnival Tuesday, Oct. 31. The carnival will be held in the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds from 6-9 p.m. According to Mistie Holley, the carnival is for children up to the age of 12. There will be no haunted house, though someone will be on hand telling ghost stories all night. Other events include a duck pond, bobbing for apples, a treasure hunt, costume contest, basketball shooting and football toss, along with a balloon dart game. There will also be a toilet paper toss, and a fishing game where everyone wins along with a coloring contest. The costume contest has an entry fee of $4 per person. Participants can feast on popcorn balls, caramel apples, soft drinks and other Halloween snacks and drinks. There will be a jack-o-lantern contest with two divisions open, for those up to age 12 and for those 13 and older. The pumpkin carving contest is sponsored by the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber director Mary Godwin said cash prizes will be given to the top three finishers in each division. The prizes will be $15 for first place, $10 for second and $5 for third. Those planning to enter this event should have their jack-o-lanterns carved before taking them to the carnival and arrive by 6 p.m. Judging will be held, with the winners announced at 7 o'clock. Along with all of this good stuff, photos will be available with a fall background. Holley said there will be hay bales, pumpkins and leaves as the setting for the pictures, which will cost $5 each. These are not Polaroid or digital photos. Admission to the carnival will be $2, with the games costing 25 cents each. Holley said all of the FFA members will be in costume. The money raised from the carnival will be used to help offset the cost of the members attending the state and national FFA convention next year. Letters concerning the Halloween carnival are being sent home with elementary school students. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
