Changes Made To Prescott High PageantBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, October 25, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Major changes have been made to the Miss Prescott High School Pageant. First, according to Mistie Holley, the name has been changed to the Miss Prescott Public School Pageant, and will, for the first time in its 30 year history, students from McRae Middle School can participate as well. Holley said there will be three divisions, Petit Miss for students in grades five and six; Junior Miss, for seventh and eighth grade students, and the Miss pageant, for high school students. In addition, the entire format for the pageant has been changed, with the traditional Christmas theme dropped. Instead, Holley said, the theme will be "Mardi Gras The Women Behind the Mask". The pageant will open with a full production number. The contestants were required to select their escorts for this number, with the requirement the escorts have some dancing ability. Colors for the pageant this year are green, gold and purple, with Jerry Westmoreland once again being the master of ceremonies. The Petit and Junior contestants will compete in sportswear, interview and evening wear, with the option of entering the photogenic contest as well. The Miss contestants will be featured in talent, interview, evening wear and sportswear, along with a photogenic category. Another change made to the pageant this year is the contestants have to pay a $15 entry fee to be involved. Something else different from past pageants is carnations will be available at the door for $1 each from Two Morrows Petals. These flowers will have a place messages for the girls can be written, with runners on hand to deliver them to the contestants. Tickets for the pageant are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Children under the age of five will get in for $2. The money raised from the pageant will be used to help get the PHS yearbook published and printed. This is the biggest fund raiser of the year, Holley said. The pageant will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the PHS auditorium.
