Classy Moments from CMSPublished Wednesday, October 25, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesWe really enjoyed meeting with parents and discussing students' progress during parent/teacher conferences held Thursday. A big thanks to the parents for making your visits such a success. Strange' sounds were heard from time to time during the conferences. It was though the nurse's office had been turned into a torture chamber as several students were getting their shots. This was such a good opportunity for students to get the required shots and not have to miss school. Now, there were several who just took their shots and never uttered a sound, and then there were those who sorta' felt the pain. A big thanks also to Mrs. McKenzie and Mrs. Morehead for decorating the entrance to our building. They went the extra mile' and we just simply looked great (just cannot overlook Mike McKenzie and David Miller for their help). Red ribbon week is under way and each student was given a red ribbon to wear each day of the week. Special activities are taking place each day. Friday, the chain will be broken and the name on the links that break will receive prizes. Sock it to Drugs' will end our activities with a sock hop in the gym. The mock election is in full swing. The campaign committees are really working to promote their candidates. The national party campaign committee could probably learn from these students. Monday, Nov. 6, the candidates will give their speeches as they state the various issues they plan to take care of when elected. This is an important time for our students as they are learning more about the national election, issues that may concern them, and the importance of voting. We attended our last junior high pep rally Tuesday. Oh, so sad. The cheerleaders sold a special spirit ribbon that gave the students the opportunity to obtain as many signatures on their ribbon as possible. The ribbon with the most names would bring $5 to its owner. Nikita Briscoe had 330 signatures and was given the $5, and, hard as it is to believe, she took the money with a smile upon her face. Congratulations, Nikita. We are really proud of Kayla Quillin, Britta Halliday, Jessie Livingston, Callie King, Katie Barbaree, Christina Daniels, Natalie Tarpley, Jessica Land, Rebecca Nolen and Lauren Coston as they made Southwest All-Region choir. They will be in concert Nov. 18 that is to be held in Benton. Great job. Well, as you see we are busy, but we certainly enjoy making those Classy Moments at CMS.
