Benton Attends FACS MeetingPublished Wednesday, October 18, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneLinda D. Benton, family and consumer science (FACS - home economics) teacher at Prescott High School, attended an institute August 1-3 on the campus of Harding University in Searcy. The institute is designed to enrich and educate FACS teachers in areas relevant to the course curriculum in Arkansas. Topics this year included technology, clothing management, housing and interior design, family dynamics, parenting issues, creative displays, classroom management, professional organizations, promoting family and consumer sciences, effective communication and public relations. Session were also offered which focused on family, career and community leaders of America, which is the student organization for high school students enrolled in family and consumer sciences. This annual event is open to all family and consumer science teachers in the state of Arkansas. This year over 200 teachers attended the institute. The summer institute is a collaborative effort between Harding University, Henderson State University, University of Central Arkansas and the family and consumer sciences division of the Arkansas Department of Workforce Education.
