Action Continues In Youth Flag Football LeagueBY RICKY RAGSDALEPublished Wednesday, October 18, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Johnathan Burks scored two touchdowns to lead the Giants past the Falcons in the second and third grade youth flag football game. London Cole did a good job running the ball for the Giants, while James Colbert and Jalan Box led the team's defense in tackling. Marcus Banks scored a touchdown and two-point conversion for the Falcons, but it wasn't enough to get past the Giants. Job Rabideau was the leading receiver, while Blake Beaver had a good run in the game. On defense, Seth Easterling, Cameron Hardaman, Colton Phillips and Marquis Evans played well. In the fourth, fifth and sixth grade games, the Broncos beat the Steelers. Calvin Brown had three long runs in the game, while LaGorgio Gulley and Danielle Wilson led the way in blocking. Levatus Evans and Matthew Hull stood out on defense for the Broncos. For the Steelers, Johnathan Formby did well on defense, while Gavin McCauley knocked passes down in the secondary. Cody Camp excelled at linebacker. In the other game, the Cardinals and Cowboys battled to a tie. Keyon Ross scored for the Pokes, while Dominic Brewer led the defense. The Cards were led by Travaro Coulter, who scored twice and Joel Hodges who crossed the goal line once. Camron Wilson was the leading receiver for the Cards, while Marquis Wilson and Zach Lawrence were defensive standouts. Standings for the second and third grade teams show the Giants unbeaten at 2-0, while the Chiefs are 1-1 and Falcons are 0-2. For the 4-6, teams, the Cards are at 2-0-1, with the Broncos have a record of 1-1-1. The Cowboys are 0-1-2, while the Steelers have a record of 1-2. Action Tuesday, Oct. 24, will begin with the Giants playing the Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. in the second and third grade game.
