A forum has been scheduled for the candidates in the Fourth Congressional District House of Representatives race.

The forum will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Prescott High School auditorium. It will last 90 minutes, running from 7-8:30 p.m.

It is being sponsored by the AARP, and will feature Congressman Jay Dickey and his opponent State Sen. Mike Ross.

According to Davis Benton, chairman of the Nevada County Election Commission, Jon Chadwell, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, will be the moderator, with questions to be posed to Ross and Dickey by a four-person panel.

The panelist, Benton said, are John Miller with the Nevada County Picayune, John McCoy with KHPA radio, Allene Spenser, a former educator and school board member, and Ruby Hart, an instructor at Prescott Elementary School.

The audience, he said, will also be allowed to ask the candidates questions.

After being asked a question, the candidates will have two minutes to answer, with the other getting a one minute response. Each will also have two minutes for closing comments, Benton said.

The purpose of the forum, he said, is to help inform local and area voters as to the candidates' positions in several areas and on a number of issues.

Representatives from Dickey's Washington, D.C. office have said he will be here for the forum unless Congress is still in session.

The auditorium will has a seating capacity of 600, so those interested should get there early.

Refreshments will be served.
