Published Wednesday, October 18, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

The 17th annual Forest Festival pageant will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the old Gurdon High School auditorium on Third Street.

Because of an increased participation by the teens, a new division has been added to this year's competition.

Junior Miss Forest Festival will be for ages 9-12; Princess will be for ages 13-15, and Queen will be for ages 16-18.

This year's pageant will feature 50 young ladies between the ages of 3 and 18 who are residents of Clark County. There will be a second runner-up, first runner-up, winner and photogenic awards presented in each of the five age divisions of competition. An interview award will be give in the princess and queen divisions.

Changes have been made in the time on Saturday for rehearsal, so parents and contestants should take note. The rehearsal schedule for contestants on Saturday morning, Oct. 21, will be: Tiny Miss 9:00-9:45 a.m., ages 3-5; Little Miss 9:45-10:15 a.m., ages 6-8; Junior Miss 10:15-11:00 a.m., ages 9-12; Princess 11:00-11:45 a.m., ages 13-15; and Queen 11:45 a.m.-12:30 noon, ages 16-18.

Interview for Princess contestants will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Gurdon Hoo-Hoo Museum on Main Street. Queen interviews will begin at 3:45 p.m. Contestants will wear fashionable clothing of their choosing for the personal interview.

Parents or guardians only may accompany contestants to the morning rehearsal, and are reminded that they are guests only and should act accordingly. Guests will not be allowed at the interview sessions.

Tickets are now on sale for the Saturday night event and may be purchased at Billy's Main Street Florist in Khun's Hardware Store on Main Street in Gurdon. Ticket prices are $4 in advance and $5 at the door.

The Forest Festival pageant is sponsored by the Gurdon C.D.& E. Club.
