Willie WashingtonSUNSET FUNERAL HOMEPublished Wednesday, October 18, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Willie Washington, 72, of Rockford, Ill., died Monday, September 25, 2000, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Mr. Washington was born August 2, 1928, in Prescott, the son of Willie E. and Alice (McCoy) Washington. He lived 33 years in Rockford and was employed as a forklift operator by Unison for 28 years. He married Trudy Brown in Prescott on June 18, 1954. Mr. Washington was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Norfolk, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Trudy of Rockford; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Virginia Washington of Rockford; seven daughters, Lorraine (Johnny) of Prescott, Mary (Johnny) McMurtry of Rockford, Kathy Wilson of Rockford, Evon Gregory of San Francisco, Calif., Mary Anne Gregory of Quinin, Texas, Phyllis (Benny) Dixon of Prescott and Georgia Walters of Rockford; three sisters, Lula May Roberts and Georgia Nell Washington of Gurdon and Elizabeth Washington of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Washington of Dallas, Texas, and Billy Jim Washington of Arkansas; and a host of grand-children, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Sunset Funeral Home in Rockford with Rev. Arthur Purifoy officiating. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
